Park place remodel is Kaminski’s most unique project in our history not because of quality work or design, but its uniqueness started from the first call we received from our customer. We were hired based on many email & facetime exchanges. The client was in New Orleans therefore we didn’t meet face-to-face until the job was essentiality completed.
The apartment was in pretty much it's 1959 condition - original GE Wonder kitchen, original fixtures - except for cosmetic like carpet, and paint. The 10th floor building is a mid-century modern, and its entirely concrete, including all floors, ceilings, and interior walls. The electrical system was original, and part of it was integrated with the wonder kitchen. Heating in the building is central, but there is no provision for Central AC. All these features presented unique, uncommon problems that had to be solved.
Our project was to replace the kitchen entirely, reconfigure adjoining walls, take out all the old carpet, grind, smooth and refinish the concrete floors, replace one bathroom, open up a doorway, replace all electrical service, run new electrical lines, install new plumbing to maximum allowance, install split unit AC in three rooms, smooth popcorn, and paint the place.
Unexpected problems were encountered at almost every major step. For example, a rotted concrete wall discovered in the old bathroom stall had to be removed, which then required configuring the shower stalls and the abutting coated closet. We believe in honesty, we handled each such surprise openly and professionally.
Running the lines to the three interior AC units gives an example of the practical and attractive way we solve problems. We hid the lines in soffits running under the radiators on the wall, up another wall, then through closets. It fits in so well, like it's been there all along.
