After many years living with the status quo, homeowners Chantal and Jim knew just what they wanted to fix! An exceptional cook and avid baker, Chantal had been making-do with a tiny, angled and cut-up island top for too long.A big, spread – out island was her main request.
The Maughan Design & Remodel team went to work, designing an island that incorporated the nook seating in one, large expanse and more than doubling the size of the island top.Adding a second window to the back of the house was the inspiration that broke the old layout out of its corner-sink grid-lock.That allowed the sink to shift out of the corner, relocating the fridge and flooding the kitchen with light and views of the recently created back yard pool / oasis.
Repurposing the under stairs pantry area to create an open wine room was next on the design agenda. The design team created a stone -clad cellar, complete with paver flooring and custom wine-racks became the inspiration for the rest of the kitchen materials.A hand-hammered copper hood, faux wood ceiling beams, Carrera marble-style quartz counters and rustic cabinetry all work together to complete the warm, old-world feel.
