Imagine packing up your family and traveling halfway around the world to spend the summer with relatives, then returning two months later to a home that has been completely transformed in your absence. This was the adventure we shared with our West Linn client in the summer of 2017. The needs of their growing family were not served well by this 1990s home. The main floor living space was divided into small, awkward spaces and there was a shortage of bedrooms and bathrooms in the house overall. Originally, they came to us for help with a variety of individual improvements. Looking at the various issues and projects collectively, T.H.E. Remodel Group design team stepped out of the box with a bold, comprehensive solution that addressed the issues at hand and also revitalized the entire home. The newly reconfigured space is so seamless it appears the house was surely built that way originally. The first step in realizing this vision was removing a heavily loaded interior wall near the front of the house. A massive 16” x 8” x 25-foot beam was hoisted into place, dramatically opening up the floor plan on the main level. Removal of the wall also required extensive rerouting of various mechanical systems throughout the three-story home. In the new space, an elegant new kitchen was built along with a new powder bath, coat closet and walk-in pantry. The vaulted ceiling to one side of the new space was lowered to create symmetry and provide additional living space upstairs. Off the kitchen, an existing bedroom and bathroom were creatively combined to create a second master suite. Upstairs, the converted vault space and reconfigured windows provide a cozy, delightful space for the youngest family members and the potential to add an additional bedroom as they grow. Trust and communication were the hallmarks of this project
