Project Details
For this project, we were asked to incorporate a clean, modern design, with a bit of a Scandinavian aesthetic to the classic Mid-Century home. While the home had been remodeled and expanded in the '90s, it still had a closed-off floorplan in need of a modern, open floorplan suitable for today’s lifestyle and entertaining. Also, the prior remodel was not in keeping with the Mid-Century architectural style of the home.
In the kitchen, we removed closets that were previously a pantry and washer and dryer closets to allow for a full wall of cabinetry. We were then able to incorporate a relocated refrigerator and a large bar cabinet with floating shelves, all backed by a mirror. By moving appliances and cabinets, it was possible to remove the wall between the dining and the living room and suspend the floating shelves for visual interest. The peninsula with an eat-in bar and the island (also with an eat-in bar) allows for multiple spaces for eating, homework, entertaining, and food preparation.
Using high-end Italian laminate cabinetry for durability with an incredible matte finish, the kitchen is truly the center of the home and quite impactful! Most importantly, the function and storage of the space is vast and useful. Capped with quartz counters, this kitchen is designed to last.
We extended the original hardwood flooring into the kitchen (to replace the dated vinyl) and applied a Monocoat finish to allow for long-term durability with care and repair flexibility… also in a beautiful matte finish to complete the desired appearance.
Finishing touches included cladding the fireplace in striking leather texture, matte black tile and painting the miss-matched and dated wood ceiling for a cohesive look.
The clients are excited to move in and enjoy this home for years to come!
