One morning, my wife commented, “It’s time to move.”
In our master bedroom, we have a king size bed, but it didn’t quite fit the room. Not enough space to get around the bed without scrapping the wall. And it wasn’t just space. We also couldn’t access the master bathroom without leaving the bedroom and going into the hallway. And the bathroom was… tired.
But I REALLY didn’t want to move.If you like your house, your neighborhood, & your location (location, location), you really just want to stay put. So, I started looking for options to solve these problem.
I called my architect, John Hasenberg, & asked him to get creative. His incredible idea was to create additional space in the 2nd floor suite without increasing the dining room below or the 3rd story above. He not only resolved our interior space issues but used the area under the addition to create some great outside storage areas.
Our next hurdle was time.We simply didn’t have time to select all the fixtures & finishes & I knew that, without those decisions, the project would stall.Enter Donna Dufresne, who we hired to guide us in fibers, colors, & the layout of the master bathroom – which included relocating the shower 14’ across the room.
We couldn’t be more happy with the results!A walk-in closet (added to the space in a previous remodel), the truly en suite bathroom, & the spacious bedroom give us a luxury, 5-star feeling without leaving the neighborhood, garden, & home that we love.
The exterior storage was a bonus – as was some improved lighting we added to the main & upper floors. We’re so glad that we made the choice to improve & personalize our own Laurelhurst gem.
