Project Details

How do you make a home that is currently dark, dated, and closed off work for a multi-generational family? Open it up, allow the light in, and add a suite for Grandma in the basement so she has her own space.

With the grandmother moving half way across the country to help care for the family’s young child, the owners of this house wanted to give her a space that was functional and homey in what was the walk-out basement. Now she has a full master suite with large closets, an en-suite bathroom with heated floors, and her own laundry area.

On the main floor, opening everything up was the priority. The galley kitchen has a wall knocked down, and the old laminate flooring was replaced. Now there are barnwood floors, a modern fireplace, built in fridge, and a custom magnet chalkboard on the pantry cabinets. Other modern touches include glass barn doors and tiled accents throughout. The home is now bright, welcoming and functional.

In-law suite:

  • Walk out basement fully converted to in law unit for grandmother
  • Includes master suite, large walk in closet with laundry
  • Walk in tile shower and heated bath floors
  • Contemporary and space efficient kitchenette with 3D textured tile
  • Double glass barn doors, barnwood LVT floors and modern fireplace redesign

Kitchen:

  • Tile accented kitchen island
  • Custom magnetic chalkboards on pantry cabinets
  • Under cabinet microwave, built in deep refrigerator (ask us how) and induction range
  • Charcoal colored appliances

Dining & Living Rooms

  • Seamless full wall removal between dining and kitchen
  • Updated easy custom trim throughout (ask for us for ideas)
  • New color palettes for first floor
